How will I know I am getting better? You will begin relating in different ways. You will have more control over your thoughts and feelings. Your mental health symptoms will dominate your life less.
-
How will I know I need therapy again, and how do I reach out at that time?Your relationships might become less satisfying for you. There is a lot of conflict or withdrawing in them. You may find you are feeling anxious or sad a lot more than usual. A general feeling of agitation or irritability may be present. You can either reach out on our contact page, make an appointment with the same team member you previously built a relationship with on our team page or contact that trusted team member using the contact info they will have given to you during your work together.
-
Can I feel better, or will I always be broken?Absolutely! And you are not broken, you have learned to adapt perfectly to the relationships and environment you have been in thus far. This is no longer working, and your body is telling you this. You can learn new ways of being in the world and relationships to relate differently. Uncomfortable symptoms related to trauma and other mental health issues can be mitigated and managed.
-
Will I feel worse before I get better?Sometimes, discussing difficult issues can result in them being on your mind more often during therapy. The benefit is that you are bringing them up to heal and create new patterns. However, if you feel intensely down or agitated, please tell your therapist. Pacing in sessions is important and can be tailored to meet your needs.
-
How do I know which type of therapy is right for me?Strategy-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) are great for gaining control of your thoughts. People love this approach if they like direction and concrete results, managing symptoms. Process-oriented approaches like Emotion-focused Therapy (EFT) are great for changing attachment patterns, shifting relationships and healing longer-term trauma. People often choose these approaches after they have had CBT and want to try something else to heal deeply. Please feel free to book a free consultation with several team members to talk about their recommended plan for you, so you can choose the right one.
-
How do you handle confidentiality and privacy during sessions? The platform we use to see clients, Owl, has the highest level of encryption available. Your therapist is bound by law to maintain your confidentiality (with a few exceptions they will tell you about right away). Your emailed receipts are encrypted. The regulatory colleges have strict guidelines that you can chat with your therapist about, like password protection and lock boxes.
